Education is something that can be both considered as a formal or informal ways of learning and developing. There are many different types of education a person must develop to formulate their education, which means it is not limited to only classroom learning; learning happens everywhere. I believe education begins at home before formal education is even presented. Even when formal education comes to an end in the young adult years, social education never ceases; therefore, learning continues to occur. Since society is constantly changing, there is never a point where education can be deemed as complete.
My immediate thought for an ethnography topic was my current place of employment in Fitchburg. Legacy Academy is an afterschool childcare facility that has children from some schools in Fitchburg, Madison and the Verona area. The goal of Legacy is to allow kids to relax and have fun after school while also implementing a variety of activities to have the kids learning and enhancing skills. For example, each day there is a set activity including art class, reading day, group games, and gymnastics. These activities provide an hour of constructive learning in a variety of senses, most that children would not get in school.
Fieldworking is a type of work that includes finding material and date through observation (looking, listening, questioning, interpreting). It can also be defined as doing research to understand an environment that is unfamiliar using an outsider perspective. Ethnography is the way that this information about people and cultures that was discovered during the fieldwork is reported and analyzed descriptively, most often in a scientific research manner.
